Friday, February 28, 2003 So the question has been posed: What of Canada's plan of giving a hard March 28th deadline with explicit military consequences? What's wrong with it? I see the validity of the answer, but I'm not sure I agree, 100%. The typical answer is "It's getting hotter. soon the weather will make it so it's more dangerous for our soldiers." I'm all for less danger for the soldiers. I stayed away from watching either of them; MJ, to me, is a troubled man who thinks he's still a child. But what a great performer. Songs, dancing. amazing. Anyhow there was, on a forum I participate in, a discussion about him and how people thought he was a pedophile and needed to be restricted from being with kids. Then utah posted this: ******************************************************************* I watched the Maury Povich/Fox special as well. One of the big reasons I tuned in was because I thought that Ba$hir had certainly set Jackson up in the first documentary broadcast. It was easy to see, that Ba$hir....completely changed his tone in the last of the series of interviews with Jackson...once he had enough footage to put his money making endeaver together. He sucked up to Jackson....and then, when he was confident that he had enough film....his style changed and he became much more agressive. The Maury Povich/Fox piece clearly shows this. It also shows how Ba$hir sensationalized his documentary....by editing it to make the Jackson statements that much worse, than they were....as others have pointed out. But....the most disturbing aspect of all this is the fact that Ba$hir clearly infers that Jackson should not be trusted around children...and that he may well be a pedophile. Now...in the Ba$hir documentary, he interviews Jackson...with the young boy who was dying of cancer before Jackson befriended him. And....now the kid's cancer has gone into remission. The kid and his parents, totally credit Jackson as having a direct link to the kids remission. This little guys dying wish, was to meet Jackson. And, so the kids dad called Neverland to enquire. The next thing....MJ was calling the kid, and inviting him to Neverland. That seemed to be a turning point for this child...and he began to recover. Now....why is this upsetting to me. Well....in Ba$hir's piece, the kid is clearly identified. And...since the documentary, the mom and kid have had to go into hiding, they have been pestered and hounded by reporters, other media....and general taunts from people, who accuse the kid of being a sex toy for MJ. Here's the other side. In the MJ videos shown tonight, there was plenty of footage of this little guy when he was sick. Hair all falling out. Sickly looking. Clearly on deaths door. And....it is not hard to see that, for whatever reasons....his time spent with MJ somehow helped his health, and his fight with cancer, because in the Ba$hir documentary, the kid looks healthy and happy. Now...Ba$hir could have left this little guy out of the documentary. Or....he could have disguised his identity somehow, maybe by blurring his face. But...he did neither, and clearly made a conection between MJ's pedophile charges...and this kid. And Ba$hir exploited this kid competely. To make his point....he has done plenty of damage to this young boy. So tell me. Who hurt the kid more? Ba$hir....or Michael Jackson. Who should not be trusted around children. Jackson...or a guy who will ruin the reputation of a boy, and that boys family....simply to make a few more bucks on his documentary. And...then have the nerve to suggest that HE is concerned about kids. Now....Jackson certainly may be excentric. And...maybe a pedophile. Or...maybe not. I am not a huge Jackson fan. But, I don't believe that he is anywhere near the wack job that Ba$hir tried to paint him as. But....I would suggest to all posting on this. Watch the original documentary by Ba$hir. And, then watch this other piece with Povich on Fox....which films Ba$hir...filming Jackson. I would suggest, you will clearly see that Ba$hir, is a coniving, and mean spirited journalist, who knew that a sensational documentary on MJ, would bring him some fame and fortune....at other peoples expense. He is a snake, pure and simple. Ba$hir sickens me. Jackson, who is used to all this stuff, will survive another controversy. I hope that Ba$hir's suffers a backlash from this. I believe he is NOT a credible journalist. ******************************************************************* Sigh. posted by Allan | 2/21/2003 11:27:00 AM | 1 comment uh oh. posted by Allan | 2/21/2003 10:55:00 AM | 0 comments WHAT THE HECK. Perhaps, perhaps not. But I think that there are two factors making the UN less effective. which you believe contributes more is up to you: a) The UN is not effective because of its unwillingness to 'step up to the plate' or 'put its military where its mouth is' by enforcing its own resolutions. b) The UN is not effective because of the tendency of certain members to act unilaterally (read: United States) in total disregard of the multilateral ideals on which the UN is founded. Here's the thing: a) says: the reason why most of those who are supportive of the war is that resolution 1441 has clearly been broken, and the UN should do something about it. Why isn't the security council doing anything? Because vetos from France, Germany, China, Russia et al. So the UN is irrelevant because it is unwilling to enforce the resolutions it passes. The argument against it is that several resolutions have been broken by Israel and nothing is ever done because of vetos from the USA. Why does 1441 make a difference whether or not the UN is irrelevant? Is it only relevant when it suits US purposes? b) says: the only reason it is irrelevant is when people stop discussing and start acting unilaterally. If the US totally disregards the UN and moves on Iraq unilaterally, we know who's to blame here. Argument against this is that the only reason why the US would act unilaterally is because of the inherent irrelevancy of the UN in the first place. So the more I think about it, the more it isn't Netscape's fault. What's the problem? The problem is that I'm jumping through hoops to support Netscape 4.7, a non-standard browser that is like 10 years old. Why are people still using this browser? Because they're too lazy to upgrade, and because it is stable and it works. But here's my thought: the only reason why people haven't upgraded is because the development community has been doing exactly what I've been doing - jumping through hoops to make sure it works for them. I say no more! This must stop - if we stop supporting legacy, non-standard, nasty browsers like NN 4.x, users will have no choice but to upgrade. c'mon the latest version of netscape is 7!. Period. no one else had that kind of record in the nfl - He has the track record, he was the best. They tried to interview a black coach and jackson said that it wasn't good enough: "Would you interview for a job you already know is going to someone else?" Jackson said. Xavier told me a few days ago that "The world doesn't really believe that Saddam isn't hiding anything. Of course he is. The world doesn't believe that Saddam DOESN'T have weapons of mass destruction. Of course he does, or he's developing them. The world just doesn't know if the cost of human life in a war with Iraq is worth the benefits." That, I get. That is where I have my reservations. A lot of lives will be lost. Perhaps giving the inspectors more time, and Iraq a few more ultimatums will turn the tide. I pray that it'd be so. What doesn't fly with me are the ideas that: "This war is a ploy to get Bush re-elected" - Are you kidding? Bush may not be the most brilliant guy on the block, but he's not DUMB. His advisors certainly aren't. The Gulf war in '91, while termed successful, didn't do much for Bush Sr's re-election, did it? "This war is all about oil" - The answer to that complaint is surely no. The economics do not support this theory: here's a good article. if the war is about oil to anyone, it's about oil to Russia, France, and China. posted by Allan | 2/06/2003 10:44:00 AM | 0 comments Wednesday, February 05, 2003 I broke a nail the other day. I bought a nylon classical guitar and have been growing the nails of my right hand since October. If we graphed all of the nail maintenance I've performed over my 25 years of existance, You'd see this HUGE jump in 'Oct 2002. It's ridiculous - I'm filing every single day. I had to buy this special japanese 600, 800, and 1000 grit sand paper for it, because normal emory boards leave the nail too rough. Ridiculous. Anyhow, so I was preparing to go do laundry, getting the clothes in the laundry bag, etc. I put the bag down, and noticed that my index on my right hand was feeling a little weird. Xavier in the next room hears a "Nooooo!!!!" Now, thinking about it, never in my life did I ever think it'd be possible that: a) I'd have nails long enough to break. (typically, if you see any white, it's too long.) b) I could get so upset at breaking a nail. It's a very weird experience.
