Stories like this one make me glad I didn't decide to do the whole fried turkey thing this year.

Went to home depot and saw that those $40 turkey fryers are only half of the story. then you need propane, and a propane burner, and like 10 gal of oil.

maybe next year. ;)

sweeet!

my car has lojack! hahaaha take that you integra thieves.

When we picked up the car, Wai noticed that there was a lojack user's manual in the glove box. So I gave lojack a call, faxed them a copy of my registration, and they told me that it's all set up! whoohoo.

Forgiveness flounders because I exclude the enemy from the community of humans even as I exclude myself from the community of sinners. But no one can be in the presence of the God of the crucified Messiah for long without overcoming this double exclusion--without transposing the enemy from the sphere of the monstrous...into the sphere of shared humanity and herself from the sphere of proud innocence into the sphere of common sinfulness. When one knows [as the cross demonstrates] that the torturer will not eternally triumph over the victim, one is free to rediscover that person’s humanity and imitate God’s love for him. And when one knows [as the cross demonstrates] that God’s love is greater than all sin, one is free to see oneself in the light of God’s justice and so rediscover one’s own sinfulness. --Miroslav Volf, Exclusion and Embrace

Isn't this so true? We tend to vilify those who oppose us ("That's messed up. I'd never do something like that. What kind of person does that sort of thing?") while giving ourselves the benefit of the doubt. ("I really didn't mean it that way" "I'm not really _that_ bad") It's amazing how we deceive ourselves, but also amazing how the cross answers our needs so readily - it shows us that we're worse than we think we are - humbling us in our position; yet so loved and accepted that our creator made a substitutionary payment for our sins through the death of His son - giving us confidence in our position as well.

I bought a car today :)

A green (ugh) '95 acura integra SE. Really clean engine with only 77k miles on it. I've got a car! yay! Many thanks to Song for helping me shop around in the morning, and to Wai for bringing me back to the dealership that night to pick it up. :)

another...

Imagine that the set of Monty Hall's game show Let's Make a Deal has three closed doors. Behind one of these doors is a car; behind the other two are goats. The contestant does not know where the car is, but Monty Hall does.

The contestant picks a door and Monty opens one of the remaining doors, one he knows doesn't hide the car. If the contestant has already chosen the correct door, Monty is equally likely to open either of the two remaining doors.

After Monty has shown a goat behind the door that he opens, the contestant is always given the option to switch doors.

Should you switch doors? Why or why not?
