At the time, Opera seemed like the best option, but it wasn't quite ready for prime time. Today, I redownloaded Mozilla and wow. This is not the sucks (did I use that right? I have no idea). Anyway, the verdict is very good. Get this browser - tabbed browsing is neat! It's also got a built in pop-up stopper and other nice features. Very cool. I'll maybe download opera again to see how it fares. posted by Allan | 12/23/2003 09:44:00 AM | 4 comments Monday, December 22, 2003 The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society - Team in Training My friend Priya is running in a marathon next month in the Bahamas. She's been training with a group and raising funds to support leukemia and lymphoma research, and just sent out an email saying that she's been named the Massachusetts Top Fundraiser for this event by raising $4500. Her team has raised a total of $69,000 so far. That's amazing! She emailed me directly to "thank you for your generosity," but really, giving money is easy. Who's the one training for a marathon, and going to run (albeit in the Bahamas) in the dead of winter right before her exam period in grad school? Very cool. posted by Allan | 12/22/2003 02:36:00 PM | 0 comments Wednesday, December 17, 2003 Junkfood for breakfast? Part II. Last year, while on the train, I watched some guy chow down on a bag of corn chips and then washed it down with a coke for breakfast. Needless to say, it was nasty. This morning, someone who will remain nameless just told me that they had a wonderful breakfast of Ben and Jerry's Cherry Garcia. Now, the garcia is an incredible ice cream. I love it. It's great. It is the most popular flavor from that wonderful frozen dairy producing company. But I think you guys know my opinion on the merits of this type of food in the AM. What are appropriate breakfast foods? breads; donuts; bagels; english muffins; pancakes; waffles; cereals; eggs; bacon; sausage; even lox! Pizza; Congee. From the Dairy section: milk; yogurt; cheese (But only certain types. Don't be chowing down on say, gorgonzola at 8am. That's nasty). Yes, I understand this is probably an incomplete list. Plus, it's probably a little arbitrary. But it should be obvious to everyone that ice cream in the AM is just not right. =) I asked for opinions a year ago, but didn't have the option for people to put down their comments at the time. Here's your chance to chime in. At least it wasn't a bag of cheetos. *edited for spelling posted by Allan | 12/17/2003 09:47:00 AM | 9 comments Thursday, December 11, 2003 Musical performances happening in your library? Nothing like this ever happened at Penn. Well, if it did, I never heard about it. Not that I was in the library all that much while I was there anyway :) I've been to that library - I would study there when I was preparing to take the GMAT. Cosy... posted by Allan | 12/11/2003 11:54:00 AM | 5 comments Comments finally working And here I thought it was because no one loved me anymore :) Comments are working now. Thanks to Grace for pointing out to me that they were down. posted by Allan | 12/11/2003 10:52:00 AM | 0 comments Tuesday, December 09, 2003 "The barred owl is not a little bitch like the spotted owl, and it can take a few loggers walking around here and there without keeling over and dying." posted by Allan | 12/09/2003 11:21:00 AM | 0 comments Today, I am an uncle. :) :) posted by Allan | 12/09/2003 09:18:00 AM | 4 comments Sunday, December 07, 2003 Let the ricing begin :) So my project was to get the 98-01 all-red taillights for my integra. OEM ones are so expensive! used ones go on ebay for like 120+. The 94-97 taillights go for $10-20. Much better. ;) So I bought a set, then went to Pearl Paint on canal st, and got a few cans of transparent red paint, and acrylic clearcoat. Here are some photos... now all that needs to happen is that it stops snowing and warms up so I can install them :) posted by Allan | 12/07/2003 01:41:00 AM | 3 comments Friday, December 05, 2003 snow Lots of it... keep warm guys! posted by Allan | 12/05/2003 04:08:00 PM | 0 comments Thursday, December 04, 2003 Hotmail users, any of you read those silly news links on the sidebars? One piqued my interest this morning: "Ludicrous Laws" Pretty amusing. There's laws against transporting skunks across state lines (TN) (unless you're from a 'bona fide zoological park or research institution') or a law against a bingo game lasting longer than 5 hrs (NC). Mississippi has a pretty practical law about it being illegal for a man to seduce a woman with the false promise of marrying her. And then there's this one: LAW: It is illegal to wear a bulletproof vest while committing a murder. COUNTRY: USA / STATE: New Jersey CITATION: 2C:39-13 Unlawful use of body vests. ACTUAL: A person is guilty of a crime if he uses or wears a body vest while engaged in the commission of, or an attempt to commit, or flight after committing or attempting to commit murder, manslaughter, robbery, sexual assault, burglary, kidnapping, criminal escape or assault under N.J.S.2C:12-1b. Use or wearing a body vest while engaged in the commission of, or an attempt to commit, or flight after committing or attempting to commit a crime of the first degree is a crime of the second degree. Otherwise it is a crime of the third degree. posted by Allan | 12/04/2003 10:35:00 AM | 2 comments |
