Saturday, January 15, 2005 Man, and he seemed so nice... So I left my cellphone in a cab this morning. What a beginning to a hectic day - had to wake up to get a car inspected, then met with some people to practice for Andrew's wedding in two weeks, then I had to get to the office to support a server upgrade (where I am right now, actually) In the middle of all this, I left my cell in a cab. He had driven me from the mechanic in Flushing back to my place in Rego Park. After I realized it was gone, I called the cell a few times and spoke to the driver. He was already in Manhattan, so I told him I'd be in Manhattan later, and we could meet somewhere there. He told me "Don't worry, I'll get your phone back to you" Once I got to work, I gave him directions to bring it downtown, and told him that I'd reimburse him for his time. He said that he was in the upper west side, and that he'd come downtown after a fare or two. He finally gave me a call around 2pm saying that he was downtown. I met with him, gave him $20, and was very happy to have my phone back. I told a few co-workers of my good fortune, and they all jokingly said "make sure he didn't make any long distance calls!" Sure enough, 4 international phone calls, three of them to Bangladesh, and one to Italy. He seemed so nice, too. I didn't even think of taking down his medallion number... posted by Allan | 1/15/2005 04:29:00 PM | 6 comments |
